Pembrokeshire residents are being invited to visit their local library during Welsh Public Libraries National Reading Week, which runs from Monday 28 September to Saturday 3 October 2026.
Public libraries across Wales are marking the week by highlighting their role in supporting reading and providing spaces where people can explore books, use computers and e-resources, develop skills and connect with their community.
Events in Pembrokeshire build on activity over the last couple of months, including Summer Reading Challenge activities and talks for several school classes. The free programme includes author talks, rhyme-time sessions, Knit and Natter, Lego Clubs, Book Groups and other community events.
Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, Cllr Rhys Sinnett, said: “It’s great that Pembrokeshire Libraries are taking part and highlighting the sort of activities they offer throughout the year.
“Regular groups meeting in the library help encourage repeat visits, which is a cause for celebration. The importance of libraries in literacy and encouraging reading for pleasure, for all ages, should not be under-estimated.”
Reading Week forms part of the wider UK National Year of Reading 2026, which aims to encourage people of all ages to develop a love of reading for pleasure and benefit from the positive impact it can have on their education, well-being, creativity and lifelong learning. Reading is encouraged in all forms, including books, e-books, audio books and storytelling.
