An EU-backed initiative which helps into work young people who are not in education, employment or training, is going from strength to strength

Cam Nesa is supporting its second young person into employment since the scheme launched at the beginning of March.

Former student Tom Lawrence, aged 24, was referred to the Cam Nesa project on 12th March by Pembroke Dock Job Centre Plus and within three weeks was in a job.

He first engaged on the project on 15th March to undertake an initial assessment and compile an individual action plan with daily targets with his Cam Nesa worker.

Tom, aged 24, left university last July after undertaking a foundation degree in Art and Design and was keen to gain local employment.

He worked closely with employment engagement officer, Fran Wisby, who advised him on resources, support tools and how to create a CV and covering letter.

On 21st March Fran was contacted by local employer Kiln Park holiday resort near Tenby, asking if the project could put forward a suitable candidate for a position as a lounge host.

The Cam Nesa team immediately thought of Tom. They worked on the job application and sent it over to the employer that afternoon with a reference.

The following morning Tom was invited for an interview later in the day. The Cam Nesa Team supported him on his preparation for the interview and on the 26th March he was offered the job, starting just four days later.

Congratulating Tom on his appointment, Fran said:

“Tom is pleasant young man who will ideally suit this position. Kiln Park is a family-orientated employer and in my experience they always look after their staff.”
