Following the sentencing of six people to more than 44 years in prison at Newport Crown Court at the end of January for conspiracy to supply heroine, a 52 year-old man from Sandwell in the Wet Midlands is the latest to be sent to prison as part of Operation Jackdaw.
On Friday (1st February) Amrik Singh was sentenced to five years six months for Conspiracy to Supply Heroin and 14 days concurrent for Possession of Cannabis.
Late last year police officers from Tarian, the Regional Organised Crime Unit, supported by South Wales and Gwent Police executed a series of warrants as part of Operation Jackdaw and Singh is the latest to appear before the Court for sentencing.
Detective Chief Inspector Julian Bull, of Tarian, said: “There is a human cost to the trade of supplying drugs, and we will work tirelessly to stop this. I cannot over-emphasise the dangers of heroin and the harm it can cause to the community as a whole. It is good to know that these criminals are now behind bars and unable to continue profiting from the misery their trade brings to our neighbourhoods.

As this case shows, someone who is perceived to be a small-time criminal can often be linked to a much larger operation, and the smallest bit of information can sometimes be the missing piece of the puzzle for our officers.”
