The award-winning band will join fellow artists at Wales’ largest celebration of equality and diversity.
[aoa id=”1″]Texas first rose to fame 30 years ago with their single ‘I Don’t Want A Lover’ which was a hit both in the UK and internationally. Ever since Texas has become one of the UK’s most renowned pop rock bands, gaining an incredible following amongst LGBT+ communities.[/aoa]

Front singer Sharleen Spiteri quickly became an icon for women in the 90s with her confident and upfront nature. Over the years she has consistently supported equal rights and in 2013 encouraged fellow equal rights activists to write to local politicians in Scotland to back same-sex marriage.
Sharleen Spiteri said: “Texas always look forward to playing Pride, the atmosphere is always positive, electric and inclusive, something we should all strive to surround ourselves with in our everyday lives, not just once a year.’’
Some of Texas greatest hits include Say What You Want, I Don’t Want a Lover and Inner Smile, an homage to Elvis Presley.
Gian Molinu, Chair at Pride Cymru, said: “Texas is an incredible band and a personal favourite of mine and we are extremely proud to be able to welcome them to our Admiral main stage this year. Sharleen Spiteri has always been an active LGBT+ supporter and is widely loved, so to have Texas on our stage over the August bank holiday will be something to remember and no doubt they will put on a performance we won’t forget.”
“I am already looking forward to hearing all of their hits and to be part of the amazing atmosphere. With this year marking our 20th anniversary, it is exciting to have Texas join us in celebrating, especially as they released their album ‘The Hush’ back in 1999.”
Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend has become one of the biggest events in Wales in August, having attracted 50,000 people over the weekend in 2018. Last year, the Welsh LGBT+ charity received the Gold Award from Attitude is Everything, for their continuing commitment to making their Big Weekend accessible to all. Throughout the event, organisers cater for access needs for all, offering accessibility tickets, British Sign Language interpreters, a quiet zone, disabled facilities and a special viewing platform facing the main stage.
Some of the other acts which are set to hit the stage over the weekend have already been announced by the Welsh LGBT+ charity and include Gok Wan, Shellyann Evans and Tina Cousins.
Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend will be held over the course of three days during the August Bank Holiday Weekend on 23, 24 and 25 August outside Cardiff City Hall Lawns.
