Bodnant Gardens in Wales has been shortlisted as one of Britain’s best ‘secret spots’, according to research from McCarthy & Stone and the National Trust.

Located in the scenic location of Conwy, the Grade I listed Bodnant Garden is also a wonderful example of British gardening. The impressive site has plenty to do – not just for those with green fingers – with grand formal terraces, dramatic riverside dells, a tranquil lakeside and woods and meadows teaming with wildlife.

You can make the most of the ‘50 things’ challenge that offers something for the whole family to enjoy including, den building, hunting for fossils and cloud watching.

In collaboration with the National Trust, McCarthy & Stone have curated a list of the 10 best ‘secret spots’ from around Britain, using expert insights from the National Trust and the findings from a previous study into the public’s favourite ‘hidden gems’ to visit around Britain.

The list of the 10 best National Trust ‘secret spots’ were:

    1. Trengwainton Garden, Cornwall
    2. Bodiam Castle, East Sussex
    3. Blakeney Nature Reserve, Norfolk
    4. Rievaulx Terrace, North York Moors
    5. Bodnant Gardens, Wales
    6. Cragside, Northumberland
    7. Ham House, Richmond
    8. Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire
    9. Kiver Edge and Rock Houses, Stourbridge
    10. Beatrix Potter Gallery, Cumbria

A spokesperson from McCarthy & Stone said:

“As well as working with the National Trust to unveil some of their best ‘secret spots’ in Britain, we have also picked 10 locations which are ideal for a summer’s day out for all the family.

“What our top 10 also shows is that you don’t need to travel far whether you’re planning a staycation this summer or you simply want to explore somewhere exciting and new. These 10 National Trust secret spots show that there are plenty of fantastic things to do in Britain and we hope our list gives you a bit of inspiration for the summer holiday season”.
