The Royal Television Society (RTS) in Wales has announced its 2020 awards – celebrating the best in TV and audio-visual content by industry professionals and student filmmakers in Wales.

In addition to the long-standing students’ honours, the annual awards are being extended to allow broadcasters and independent producers to submit entries in the new Industry categories.

The RTS Cymru Awards 2020 will be held on 27th February next year at Cineworld in Cardiff.

Judith Winnan, Chair of RTS Cymru Wales, said: “We’re delighted to announce our extended awards for 2020. Our student awards are well-established and, as part of our ambitious plans for the RTS in Wales, this year we’re very much looking forward to honouring industry achievements as well.

“It’s been a fantastic year for Welsh programming-making and we know from previous awards how much young filmmaking talent exists in the student community in Wales. We look forward to receiving nominations from broadcasters and producers as well as from the next generation of talented filmmakers to make the 2020 awards our best yet.”

    RTS Cymru Industry Awards

Nominations are invited from broadcasters and independent producers in Wales for the following categories:

    • Drama
    • Factual
    • Children’s
    • News & Current Affairs
    • Breakthrough Award

Now in its second year, the Breakthrough Award is for emerging professionals who are making their mark on the industry and have a minimum of two years’ experience in a paid role. Nominees can be working in any aspect of the behind-the camera production process, including development, research, production management and all craft roles.

    RTS Cymru Student Awards:

The Student Awards, now in their 25th year, recognise the best audio-visual work created by students attending higher education institutions and further education courses in Wales. Nominations are invited in the following categories:

    • Animation
    • Comedy & Entertainment
    • Drama
    • Factual
    • News
    • Short Form

As in previous years, the winners of each student category will go forward to compete in the UK-national RTS Student Television Awards in London.

The judging panels for the Industry Awards and the Student Awards will be made up of experienced professionals from the television production sector and from the higher and further education sectors.

The closing date for Industry entries is 10 January 2020.
