Outline planning permission has been secured for the comprehensive mixed-use redevelopment of Milford Waterfront, Milford Haven.

The 26,266 sq m development, by the Port of Milford Haven, will include commercial, leisure, retail and fishing industry floorspace, and is set to create 611 jobs once complete. Planning permission was secured by planning and development consultancy Turley.

The proposal includes up to 190 new residential properties, high quality leisure provisions and up to 70 marina berths, alongside new public spaces. The grade II Listed Quay Stores building on Victoria Road will also be restored and extended to create a multi-functional events space.

Andy Jones, CEO at the Port of Milford Haven, said:

“We are pleased that outline planning permission has been secured for Milford Waterfront and are working hard to deliver tangible development activity to support the ongoing promotion of Milford Haven as a place to visit as well as to live and work.”

Turley originally secured a resolution to grant outline planning permission in 2015. Due to market changes the original outline application was revisited and updated, with the amended application approved on 1 November by Pembrokeshire County Council.

Huw Jones, head of planning Wales at Turley, said:

“It’s brilliant news that Milford Waterfront has received outline planning permission. We have a long-standing relationship with the Port of Milford Haven, and it’s great to see its ambitious plans coming to fruition.

“The detailed planning applications for the first two phases of development are scheduled to be submitted in December this year. Once approved, Milford Waterfront will create a thriving and vibrant visitor destination in Pembrokeshire.”

Turley advised on the planning, heritage & townscape, design, economics, sustainability and strategic communications aspects of the scheme.

The consultancy has been advising Port of Milford Haven since 2010.
