The theme for The National Library of Wales’s stand at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Builth Wells from May 28 to June 2 will be the work and life of artist Kyffin Williams.

To celebrate a centenary since his birth and to coincide with a large exhibition of his work, the library’s education service staff will be delivering activities for children based on paintings and drawings by the famous artist from Anglesey.

The exhibition, Kyffin Williams: Behind the Frame, is being shown in the Gregynog Gallery at the library in Aberystwyth until September 1.

Information panels will tell the story of his career and each child visiting the stand will receive a copy of a free, colour bilingual booklet about the life of Kyffin Williams. Throughout the week, young visitors will be given an opportunity to contribute towards recreating one of Kyffin Williams’s paintings, while learning about one of Wales’s most prominent artists.

On Tuesday, May 29, artist Catrin Williams will be leading a workshop focusing on Kyffin’s painting style and technique. Children will be welcome to join in the fun between 10:30am and 4pm.

There will be a shop on the stand selling items relating to the artwork received by library as gifts from Kyffin, as well as the wide range of goods normally sold in the Library’s shop.
