Leading orthopaedic and surgical product specialists Hospital Innovations has appointed former Rugby Union player, David Seymour, to their sales team.

David Seymour, who had a successful career as a flanker in the Rugby English Premiership with Saracens and Sale Sharks, has joined Hospital Innovations’ team as their new Sales Specialist. His role within the company will focus on liaising with medical professionals across the Midlands and Yorkshire and discussing new and innovative products and technologies within Hospital Innovations’ portfolio.

Prior to joining Hospital Innovations, David started his own coffee company, Couch Ground Coffee and supplies a number of businesses across North England, including Bentley in Cheshire. David has now transitioned into professional medical sales.

Speaking about his new role, David said: “I am honoured to have been given the chance to join Hospital Innovations’ sales team and learn about the medical industry through their innovative products. I want to thank Emma Millburn, National Sales Manager for giving me this opportunity and I am excited about my journey as a sales specialist.”

David spent 14 years as a rugby player, making more than 300 appearances in the English Premiership and winning a silver medal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He retired in early 2018 and started his journey within the sales and business development world.

David said: “After retiring from rugby, it was quite daunting trying to find a new career as some rugby players find the transition difficult and can become lost.

“I was quite lucky that I was able to retire on my terms and had the opportunity to join Hospital Innovations. There are a lot of transferrable skills, such as producing new strategies each week, networking with new people, and the ability to learn new things and adapt. There is a similar mindset too with individual pressures but also working as a team and seeing the bigger picture, so in that sense I am well-suited for this role.

“Working for Hospital Innovations so far has been really good. The team have been incredible and made me feel welcome, which has made the transition a lot smoother for me. I’ve been able to pick up new skills and learn interesting things about the medical industry. It has been great, and I am looking forward to growing with the team.”

Phil Davies, Managing Director at Hospital Innovations, said: “We are delighted that someone of David’s calibre has joined Hospital Innovations’ team. He has had an impressive career on and off the pitch and we are looking forward to working with him to help build the company’s reputation on his territory and beyond.”

Founded in 2008, Hospital Innovations is a Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licensed supplier of specialist products used in orthopaedic and corrective surgeries and works in partnership with five of the world’s leading tissue banks.

The Talbot Green-based company specialises in delivering innovative, safe and effective solutions to hospitals and clinics; and has grown into a global trading company.
