The Volvo Ocean Race is preparing to set sail from Cardiff this weekend with bus passengers getting vital travel advice to ensure they can enjoy its exciting conclusion.

The international event, which is due to leave the city on Sunday 10th June, has attracted thousands of visitors to Cardiff Bay during its historic first visit to the city.

Over the past two weeks more than 30,000 people have travelled to the Volvo Race Village, based across the barrage, and learned more about the round the world race, which sees a fleet of seven boats travelling 45,000 nautical miles from Alicante to the Netherlands.

To enable people across the city to enjoy its final festivities over the coming days, Cardiff Bus is running extra Baycar  journeys to Porth Teigr, later into the evening.

The additional journey will depart on the hour and every 30 minutes past the hour until 10pm on dates when the Race Village is open late, and Cardiff Bus is encouraging customers to view the full timetable over on its website: https://www.cardiffbus.com/volvo-ocean-race-baycar

The Baycar will also stop close to the Volvo Race Village entrance to provide ease of access for those heading to the event this weekend.

Gareth Stevens, commercial manager at Cardiff Bus said:

“The Volvo Ocean Race has proved to be an exciting and hugely enjoyable event which thousands of people have travelled to Cardiff to visit.

“With this exciting event coming to a close this weekend, we want to ensure everyone gets the chance to enjoy it before the fleet sets sail on Sunday.

“Our buses will be on hand to transport visitors to and from the event with minimal stress and ease of access.

“To get the best out of our services, family tickets are available to purchase online, via the app, or on our buses, making travel across the city as accessible as possible.

“For more information about bus travel, extra services, or to purchase tickets, please visit www.cardiffbus.com or contact us via Twitter or Facebook.”
