The South Wales Chamber of Commerce has announced a series of key appointments to support its renewed aims to support its membership and enable further growth among Welsh businesses.

Paul Slevin has been appointed President, and former First Minister Carwyn Jones AM becomes the Chamber’s first Honorary Patron.

Kate Edmunds has been appointed Director of Policy, and Charlotte Boaden has been appointed Director of Events and Marketing. In addition, Nina Slevin has been appointed Customer Engagement Director, while Jo Price has been promoted to Director of International, and Sharon Adams has been promoted to Director of Membership Services.

The appointments and promotions follow a strategic review of the Chamber to meet the changing needs of businesses in the evolving global marketplace.

This review has given the Chamber two main focusses. enabling and driving growth in Welsh businesses both at home and on the international market; and helping policy makers in Cardiff Bay and Westminster to make decisions that support that growth.

Paul Slevin has worked with Heather Myers, the CEO of South Wales Chamber of Commerce and Angela Jones, Director of Finance at South Wales Chamber of Commerce since 2018. Alongside this, Paul has spent the past seven years as Lead Practitioner at Exedra Associates.

Having spent his career working with organisations and specialising in growth and development, Paul brings a wealth of experience to his new role which will see him working with businesses operating across South Wales.

Paul said: “I feel honoured to have been named as President of the Chamber here in Wales. The team is also delighted to welcome our first Honorary Patron who is equally committed to growing the Welsh economy, and is a fervent flag carrier for all things Wales.

“To support the Chamber’s new focus, we’ve recruited a senior and experienced team to deliver services that are relevant and of value to businesses that have aspirations to grow.

“I look forward to developing our plans with this new team in place, and working with our members to help them grow and provide any tools they may need to do so. We will announce further details about our plans in the coming weeks.”

Carwyn Jones AM served as First Minister from 2009 to 2018, after holding a number of cabinet positions within Welsh Government, including Minister for Environment, Planning and the Countryside, and Counsel General and Leader of the House.

Carwyn said: “It is a privilege to be named Patron of the South Wales Chamber of Commerce. I intend to use my profile and experience to promote Wales, Welsh business and industry, whenever and wherever I can.

“Wales is an ambitious and agile nation, but these are challenging times for Welsh business. It is important they are supported to grasp every opportunity, and I look forward to contributing to the realisation of the Chamber’s ambition to drive business and grow the Welsh economy.”
