Savills Cardiff has announced the acquisition of a 2.75 acre site at Plasdwr by family-run operator, Lewis Homes. Part of Cardiff’s Garden City development, to the north west of the Welsh capital, Lewis Homes will deliver a scheme of 56 new homes and apartments.

The scheme, known as Dol Werdd, will form one of five distinct neighbourhoods within Plasdwr, each with its own individual identity. Lewis Homes has now secured reserved matters approval a mix of two and three story homes. The new homes will take a contemporary design and will be arranged over intimate streets and around high quality public spaces, with good pedestrian access.

Marc Lewis, a director of Lewis Homes, said: “A family-run business for over 40 years, we are delighted to have secured a site at Plasdwr and play a role in the formation of a new and vibrant community. With a track record for delivering high quality residential schemes across South Wales, we are very much looking forward to bringing proposals to life for the future benefit of Cardiff.”

Savills acted for Lewis Homes in its acquisition. Scott Caldwell, a director in the development team at Savills Cardiff, said: “Lewis Homes acquisition demonstrates confidence in the local housing market, which is now more important than ever. The Covid-19 restrictions have caused disruption and delay to construction projects across the country but there remains a shortfall of housing being delivered to keep pace with the levels of growth that Cardiff is experiencing.”

“Strategic schemes, such as Plasdwr, are playing an important role in enabling continued success for the city, providing new and sustainable communities that offer the very best in contemporary living. We are delighted to have been able to secure this opportunity, the first development in our capital city for Lewis Homes.”

Work is expected to start on site later in the year, Claire Turner, head of residential development sales for Savills Cardiff, said: “Dol Werdd includes a mix of apartments and houses ranging from one to four bedrooms. The Garden City development at Plasdwr is designed to fit with the natural topography of the land and will comprise of 40% green space. Prospective buyers can expect the scheme from Lewis Homes to deliver spacious homes with better access to outside space whilst still within easy reach of central Cardiff.”
