Authentic ‘Hot Pot’ restaurant opens first of its kind in Cardiff

An authentic Asian dining experience that encourages communal eating and allows the customer to cook their own food has been brought to Cardiff.

Hot Pot Spot, based on Wellfield Road in Roath, has introduced the long-standing traditional Chinese dining to Wales for the first time since opening on June 29.

The unique concept is based on a 1,000 year old tradition from China that sees diners choose a selection of fresh, locally-sourced meat, vegetables and noodles and cook at their table in a flavoursome simmering broth.

Founder of Hot Pot Spot, Trystan Cook said: “We’re so excited for people to try the Hot Pot way of dining. It’s more than just eating, it’s an experience. It’s friends and family coming together and literally making a meal of it!

“It’s certainly never a case of too many cooks spoil the broth, as the only cook is you! Customers are given free rein to choose whichever ingredients they want, whether they want a spicy or mild broth, and then they can mix their own dipping sauce at the sauce station. It’s their food, how they want it.”

The restaurant is based in The Globe Centre in the popular Wellfield Road, famed for its bars, cafes and independent shops. The venue offers table service and staff are on hand to help out Hot Pot novices.
Cook continued: “It is a brand new concept to Cardiff, so we are ready to help guide people through the process and give some handy tips to ensure customers get the most out of their experience. We’ve no doubt once people try Hot Pot, they’ll love it and keep coming back. No two Hot Pots are the same!”
