Pupils from a North Wales school joined forces to take part in the Wales Air Ambulance’s first Coffee and Cake event to raise vital funds for its cause. Every year the charity group at Ysgol Bro Llifon hold activities for local and national charities. After hearing about the all-Wales charity’s fundraiser, the pupils were eager to take part and raised an incredible £559. Sustrans Cymru is proud to have partnered with Girlguiding Cymru to help encourage future generations of young people to walk, wheel, and cycle more. A new Active Adventures badge will give young people in Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers across Wales the opportunity to explore their local areas, exercise more, and develop their skills. VEEZU, the UK’s largest and fastest-growing private hire technology platform has donated £500 to the Cardiff local arm of Cash for Kids for its Cash for Kids Day on 2 May through its Funded by Veezu scheme. Funded by Veezu is an initiative in which local residents, charities and sports teams can apply for funding and grants, set up to improve the communities in which Veezu operates. St John Ambulance Cymru’s Marine Division, Ferryside Lifeboat, saved the life of a young man who got stuck out at. 25-year-old Josh Davies from Swansea was on holiday at Kidwelly Holiday Park, on a family break for his son’s birthday. He was enjoying a beach day with his partner and young children when he got stuck out at sea. Luckily, Ferryside Lifeboat was there to bring him to safety. Cardiff and Vale College’s Basketball Academy have become the first Welsh college team to win the UK-wide Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Champions in their discipline. Fresh from the Category 1 team winning their third AoC Welsh league championship in a row and the 3rd team winning the Tier III Championship, the Academy travelled to Nottingham to compete in the AoC’s National Championships, going up against the best teams from every region in the UK. A “white-collar” Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event will take place for up to 20 people – male and female – in aid of the UK’s oldest tri-service charity. The event is being organised by Carmarthenshire residents Lara Oldfield (35) and Mike James (40), who are event promoters. Mike also coaches MMA through Legion Combat West Wales as well as supporting fighters through their whole fighting process. WJEC, the leading examination board in Wales, has launched its ‘Sustainability in Action’ qualification to support the ‘net zero jobs’ of the next generation of workers. The qualification has been developed in collaboration with the office of the Future Generations Commissioner to support Wales’ Well-being of Future Generations Act, the Curriculum for Wales, and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The Mental Health Foundation launch #MomentsForMovement campaign as data from a new poll released today reveals that the weather, feeling too tired, or being too busy with work or education are stopping many people in Wales from getting the mental health benefits of physical activity. Despite 82% of adults in Wales recognising the mental health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity, many are struggling to be active.
