Carers Trust Wales has helped over 11,000 unpaid carers in Wales to take a short break from their caring responsibilities. Thanks to funding from Welsh Government, it has awarded nearly £2 million to charities and Third Sector organisations across Wales to deliver a range of activities through the Short Breaks Scheme. The scheme, which runs until 2025, provides an opportunity for unpaid carers from diverse communities across Wales to have a short break away from their caring role. The expertise at the University of South Wales (USW) in developing entrepreneurs has been recognised through an international partnership. Tumkur University and USW formally signed a collaboration agreement during a recent visit to the Indian institution by Richie Turner, who is USW’s Incubator Manager. The partnership will initially see USW advising Tumkur University, which is near Bangalore in Karnataka State, India, on plans to develop an entrepreneurial incubator and a sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem for its students, graduates, Faculty staff, and local communities. Pupils from a North Wales school joined forces to take part in the Wales Air Ambulance’s first Coffee and Cake event to raise vital funds for its cause. Every year the charity group at Ysgol Bro Llifon hold activities for local and national charities. After hearing about the all-Wales charity’s fundraiser, the pupils were eager to take part and raised an incredible £559. A new Active Adventures badge will give young people in Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers across Wales the opportunity to explore their local areas, exercise more, and develop their skills. VEEZU, the UK’s largest and fastest-growing private hire technology platform has donated £500 to the Cardiff local arm of Cash for Kids for its Cash for Kids Day on 2 May through its Funded by Veezu scheme. St John Ambulance Cymru’s Marine Division, Ferryside Lifeboat, saved the life of a young man who got stuck out at. 25-year-old Josh Davies from Swansea was on holiday at Kidwelly Holiday Park, on a family break for his son’s birthday. He was enjoying a beach day with his partner and young children when he got stuck out at sea. Luckily, Ferryside Lifeboat was there to bring him to safety. Cardiff and Vale College’s Basketball Academy have become the first Welsh college team to win the UK-wide Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Champions in their discipline. Fresh from the Category 1 team winning their third AoC Welsh league championship in a row and the 3rd team winning the Tier III Championship, the Academy travelled to Nottingham to compete in the AoC’s National Championships, going up against the best teams from every region in the UK. A “white-collar” Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event will take place for up to 20 people – male and female – in aid of the UK’s oldest tri-service charity. The event is being organised by Carmarthenshire residents Lara Oldfield (35) and Mike James (40), who are event promoters.
