WJEC, the leading examination board in Wales, has launched its ‘Sustainability in Action’ qualification to support the ‘net zero jobs’ of the next generation of workers. The Mental Health Foundation launch #MomentsForMovement campaign as data from a new poll released today reveals that the weather, feeling too tired, or being too busy with work or education are stopping many people in Wales from getting the mental health benefits of physical activity. Despite 82% of adults in Wales recognising the mental health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity, many are struggling to be active. Swansea Bay’s first overseas midwife has been given a warm welcome by her patients and colleagues since arriving at Singleton Hospital. Abigail Peprah originally qualified in her home country of Ghana but decided on a new career in Swansea. Originally she had no plans to move to the UK or even to become a midwife. But she had a change of mind when her sister had a baby and she saw for herself what being a midwife involved. “It was all lovely and the midwives cared for her very well,” she recalled. South Wales Law Firm JCP Solicitors has re-opened applications to their Swansea based Legal Apprenticeship programme, in preparation for a September 2024 start. Offering apprenticeships to education leavers, career switchers and those re-entering the workplace, the training programme gives apprentices the chance to ‘earn while they learn’ and study for either a Level 2 in Business Administration, Level 3 to become an Advanced Paralegal, or a CILEX Level 3 Legal Apprenticeship to eventually qualify as a Solicitor. Last week, housebuilder Barratt Developments South Wales, unveiled a ‘little library’ at its Parc Fferm Wen development in St Athan — encouraging local children to find joy in reading.
