Swansea Council’s free bus initiative is back for the summer holidays, offering free travel within the city. The Free Ride Swansea offer means residents will be able to travel on public transport in the city for a total of 20 days between July 28 – August 28 and operates during each weekend (Fri – Mon). Neath Port Talbot Council has arranged for two free to all shuttle vehicles to act as a temporary last-minute solution to the axing by a local transport company of two vital bus services. A survey has been launched to ask the public of their experiences of accessing a range of public services from housing to health. The survey has been created by public sector partners across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys. Feedback will inform work around equality from 2024 until 2028 and how people with protected characteristics are affected or treated when accessing services provided by the sector. The survey focuses on key areas like education, housing, health, crime, leisure and access to the coast and countryside. It asks people to rate their own experiences of these services and their perceptions of the experience that other people in our society may have. Cabinet has considered proposals to develop the Rock Grounds buildings in Aberdare into a quality hotel, restaurant, bar and spa – and agreed the Council will start a formal process to secure a development partner. At their meeting on Monday, July 17, Cabinet discussed the proposals to renovate and redevelop the current site, retain its buildings, and preserve the historic Rock Grounds building and features. Creatives in three local authorities are to benefit from funding which aims to nurture local talent and extend the benefits of Cardiff’s creative cluster across the region. A new primary school that will open in south Powys next year has reached a significant milestone with the appointment of a headteacher, it has been announced. Sarah Court has been appointed as Headteacher for the new primary school in Brecon following an extensive recruitment process overseen by the school’s Temporary Governing Body. An agri-environment scheme to support protection of habitats on agricultural land is to be introduced from 1 January 2024 until the beginning of the Sustainable Farming Scheme in 2025, the Rural Affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths has announced.
