Graig-y-Rhacca Community Centre has become home to Caerphilly County Borough’s first outdoor Community Fridge. The Fridge, which is re-stocked daily, includes household staples such as milk, fresh fruit and vegetables and even baby food, and is available for residents completely free of charge. The Fridge is stocked through donations from Fair Share and local busineses including food that is close to its expiry date from the Co-Op Food, Machen, which in turn helps to reduce food waste. Jeremy Miles MS, Minister for Education and the Welsh Language in the Welsh Government, has visited Markham Primary School to congratulate the school on the outcome of their recent inspection report and to celebrate their use of the Welsh Language. During the visit the Minister attended the school’s Welsh Celebration Assembly, awarding children from each year group with a Siaradwr Cymraeg yr Wythnos certificate, for their efforts with using the Welsh language for the previous week. Across the week of 5th June, Monmouthshire primary schools attended the PlayMaker Conference. The aim was to bring Monmouthshire’s young leaders together for further training and to celebrate their leadership journeys. Children from 27 out of 30 Monmouthshire primary schools took part in carousel of activities delivered by MonLife Services, Monlife Leadership Academy and external partners, including Rogiet and Dixton parkrun groups, Monmouthshire Community Hubs (and libraries), Bowls Wales, Dragons RFC Community. In the past year, 25 criminal investigations in to fly-tipping have led to 19 cases referred for prosecution, with six Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) of £400 paid and fines of almost £1,500 ordered. A further seven cases are waiting to be heard. S4C will broadcast Wales’ senior men’s international football matches until 2028 in a new deal struck with partner Viaplay. Welsh language coverage will include the next two UEFA Nations League campaigns for 2024/25 and 2026/27, the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches and the UEFA EURO 2028 qualifying matches.
