Work has commenced on the demolition of the former HMRC office building at Tŷ Glas in Llanishen. Following the securing of prior planning permission with conditions for demolition in August last year, these conditions have now been discharged and full structural demolition has started. The Council acquired the Tŷ Glas site in October 2021 to provide a clear site to bring forward strategic education proposals under the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme. A year-long focus on improving the outdoor environment for the Tenby community and learners at Ysgol Greenhill culminated with the launch of a new outdoor gym. Coordinated by a committee of School Governors, the Greenhill Outdoor Improvement plan included the planting of 6,000 spring bulbs and the creation of a vegetable growing area with several raised beds, fruit trees, habitat boxes, wildflower areas and greenhouse outside the Learning Resource Centre. The Welsh Government will invest £15m to increase the number of electric vehicle charging points across Wales. The funding, confirmed today by Deputy Climate Change Minister Lee Waters, will be used to help local authorities increase the number of charging facilities ahead of fossil fuel vehicles being phased out in 2030. A former shopkeeper has been sent to prison for 12 years after being convicted of child sex offences which happened more than a quarter of a century ago. Nazir Ahmed, 73, employed a teenaged girl as an assistant at his shop in Ely, Cardiff. Ahmed has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Showing incredible bravery, over 25 years later, the female contacted South Wales Police to report that she had been subject to repeated sexual abuse.
