A £2.5m investment is planned in upgrading and improving residential, day care and child and family settings run by Swansea Council. The council’s cabinet is being asked to approve the spending on the front-line services at its next meeting. It would see £1.2m invested during the next four years to improve the eight residential facilities run by adult social services. A key Swansea regeneration project has been handed to world-class Welsh business Penderyn Distillery. Swansea Council has been transforming a significant area of the former Hafod Morfa Copperworks site over the past three years. The council worked with partners – including Penderyn Distillery and Swansea University – to create the National Lottery Heritage Fund bid. The National Lottery Heritage Fund has provided the project with grant funding of £4m. The £11m Abbey Primary School has been officially opened at a ceremony held on Friday (5th May). Pupils, staff, and invited guests were invited to the ceremony at which a plaque was unveiled by Jeremy Miles MS, Welsh Government’s Minister for Education and Welsh Language. A number of pupils also recited poetry, sang songs and spoke about how important the new school is to them as part of the opening ceremony. RCT’s cabinet are considering a proposal to create a dedicated green space to provide more options to host larger events at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park – having identified a suitable location that currently has no formal use, and that can be better used to improve the park’s visitor offer.
