Swansea Building Society demonstrated its resilience despite operating in a challenging economic environment in its 2022 results. It achieved its highest ever growth in its balance sheet, supported by record profits—all following a six-year period of sustained, controlled growth. A former North Wales detective has been recruited by one of the region’s leading law firms. Tim Wynne Evans, who worked on cases including Wales’s worst serial killer Peter Moore, has joined Gamlins Law as a case worker and investigator. Tim will work with the firm’s Crime Department, assisting them with the preparation of defence cases for clients. This includes several complex conspiracy cases, a specialist area for Gamlins Law. A North Wales woman whose one-year-old daughter is living with a rare brain tumour has welcomed news of a research centre. Mum-of-three Corinne Wardle, from Flint, has called the launch of the Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) “amazing”. Scientists at Aberystwyth University are researching whether grazing alpacas alongside other animals could help farmers tackle climate change. The new research project will explore the efficiency and environmental benefits of grazing different species together, such as sheep, goats and alpacas. The work at the University’s Pwllpeiran Upland Research Centre builds on previous research, which found that mixed grazing of sheep with cattle improved lamb growth rates and animal health, and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
