A new hazardous waste transfer station has been officially unveiled in East Moors Road, Cardiff, as part of an ambitious growth strategy by Welsh environmental services specialist Forward Waste Management. The search has begun for the next candidates to join the growing number of gardeners working in some of Cardiff’s most prestigious and much-loved parks who have graduated from traineeships. Five successful candidates will be recruited to the traineeship schemes currently advertised on the Cardiff Council website, and will spend the next four years with Bute Park, Roath Park and Victoria Park as well as hundred of other parks and green spaces across Cardiff as their office. Pupils from two primary schools in Swansea recently took over the council chamber to debate issues that are important to them. Members of the school councils at St Thomas and Danygraig primaries spoke with their local councillors asking if they could have a tour of the Guildhall and use of the chamber. The £48.7m Haverfordwest High VC School building project has won three national awards in one week. As well as scooping two awards in the Constructing Excellence in Wales Awards 2023, it also won Project of the Year at the Education Building Wales Awards 2023. Important repairs to a bridge at Maindy Road in Ton Pentre will start later this month. The work is greatly complicated by utility infrastructure on the bridge, and measures will be in place to reduce local disruption as much as possible. The bridge carries B4223 Maindy Road at a location near the police station, just south of the junction with The Parade. The structure is in a very poor condition and Calibre Contracting Ltd will replace the bridge deck – starting in the week commencing Monday, July 24, and ending in the late winter. Caerphilly County Borough Council is set to withdraw £120,000 funding for the Rail Linc 901 bus service between Blackwood and Ystrad Mynach Train Station due to falling numbers and budget constraints. A decision was taken as a full Council meeting to withdraw the funding that subsidises this service in light of the significant level of budget savings required for the Council Budget in 2023/24.
