Four schoolgirls from Newport have been crowned cyber security champions after claiming victory in the Welsh final of a contest to uncover more of the UK’s female cyber talent. The team from St Joseph’s RC High School came out on top of the regional final of the 2023 CyberFirst Girls competition hosted by Cardiff University. A care organisation has kicked off a fundraising campaign for a much-loved football club in which once included ex-Welsh international Robbie Savage in its ranks. Wrexham-based Pendine Park has donated half the cash needed to buy new kit for the town’s Brickfield Rangers girls under 12s team. The squad, which has lately enjoyed a winning streak, needs £800 for the new kit. Aldi has donated 1,000 activity books to Moorland Luncheon Club in Cardiff to help keep children who are most in need entertained during the school holidays. The books, which will be shared with families in and around Cardiff, include games, activities and recipe ideas for kids, with the supermarket also donating a selection of snacks alongside. A new Family Centre, in the Oldford area of Welshpool was officially opened yesterday by Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan. The Welshpool Integrated Family Centre opened its doors in October last year as a “one stop shop” providing services and support to children, young people and their families. A Welsh Government funded inhaler recycling scheme is helping NHS Wales reduce its carbon emissions and work towards Net Zero ambitions, as a funding pot opens for the social and primary and community care sectors worth £800,000. Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) is using funding from the Health and Social Care Climate Emergency National Programme to pilot the responsible disposal of inhalers containing hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) gases.
