Climate Change Minister Julie James has today (Tuesday, January 24) published a consultation on ‘ambitious but credible’ targets for Wales to meet 100% of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2035. A new community is taking shape at Bellway’s Longwood Grange development in Lisvane, just over a year on from the first homes going on sale. Bellway is building 270 homes at the development, off Maerdy Lane, as part of the wider Churchlands neighbourhood on the northern edge of Cardiff. This past weekend (21st-22nd January), farmers, local residents and supporters of climate charity Possible came together to plant 2500 trees on Glyn Canol Farm in Welshpool. Spread across 500m, the new hedges will draw down CO2 from the atmosphere while providing valuable refuges for native wildlife. An open letter to the UK Government has gathered huge support with its call to give dying people of working age early access to their State Pension. Over 21,000 people have joined the end-of-life charity, Marie Curie, in writing to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride, today, highlighting that terminally ill people are experiencing financial hardship due to their terminal diagnosis. A service providing mental health and wellbeing support for teachers and education staff has been awarded over £600k, the Minister for Education and Welsh Language Jeremy Miles has announced. The funding will see the School Wellbeing Service, run by Education Support extended and will increases the reach and depth of the programme. Education Support is the only UK charity with expertise in supporting the mental health and well-being of the education workforce. Road resurfacing work is due to commence on the A548 Coast Road Rhyl on Monday 30th January 2023 between the junctions of Grosvenor Road and Lynton Walk.
