The family of the 22-year-old man who died in a road traffic collision on the A487 near Cardigan on the 17 of January, have paid tribute to him. The family said: “Alfie was bright, happy, hilarious, adventurous, ambitious, kind and a gentle giant. South Wales Police is appealing for information about the unsolved murder of taxi driver John ‘Jack’ Armstrong more than 40 years ago. Mr Armstrong was found murdered near Bridgend in October 1979 after he collected a customer from Cardiff in his taxi. His death has been regularly reviewed by the South Wales Police Specialist Crime Review Unit and detectives are currently investigating his death. Officers made over 200 drink and drug drive arrests in December as part of Operation Limit, our annual Christmas anti drink and drug driving campaign. From 1 December 2025 to 1 January 2026, North Wales Police supported the national policing operation, which is aimed at reducing fatal and serious road traffic collisions and protecting road users, by carrying out targeted activity to stop drivers who are driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs. A Powys farmer has pleaded guilty for causing unnecessary suffering to 80 sheep and failing to provide them with sufficient levels of care. Guy Hodnett of Brook House, Knighton, Powys has been successfully prosecuted by Powys County Council. Mr Hodnett appeared before Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court this week (Tuesday, 20 January) where he pleaded guilty to two offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. People across Wales can now see where they are on NHS waiting lists using the NHS Wales App. The latest update lets people who have been added to a waiting list since December check their waiting list status, view their referral into hospital care, and access information to help manage their health while waiting for treatment. To date, more than 80,000 waiting list referrals and more than 197,000 hospital appointment notifications have been added to the app. They can also see details about upcoming hospital appointments, including directions and supporting information.
