A range of exciting regeneration projects across the Caerphilly county borough have received a cash boost thanks to a funding decision made by the council’s Cabinet. In total, more than £570k has been allocated towards a number of developments including: New Caerphilly market proposal – £450,000 has been secured to progress exciting plans to create an attractive new market development on Park Lane in the heart of the town centre. Local primary school children declared Penallta Reuse Shop open during an official launch last week. The former Penallta Depot has been transformed into a Reuse Shop. This flagship facility provides a great opportunity for items once destined for the Household Waste Recycling Centre to be reused and sold at bargain prices. The Reuse Shop has been launched in partnership with South Wales based charity, Wastesavers. Wastesavers currently have nine Reuse Shops in operation throughout South Wales, however Penallta Reuse Shop is the first to open in the Caerphilly County Borough. A drop-in session for the final phase of the consultation aimed at improving the public spaces within Brecon town centre, will take place on Wednesday 2 November, between 3.30pm and 6.30pm at Y Gaer, Brecon. The Interim Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales, Gosia Siwonia, has confirmed the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 in poultry at a site in Anglesey. This is the second confirmed case of avian influenza on Anglesey this month. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone have been declared around the infected premises, to limit the risk of disease spread. Within these zones, bird movements and gatherings are restricted and all holdings that keep birds must be declared. The measures are stricter in the 3km Protection Zone. Every further education college in Wales now has a dedicated Employment and Enterprise Bureau to help young people prepare for the world of work by supporting them to find a job or setting up their own business, Economy Minister Vaughan Gething has announced today. Menai Bridge has closed for essential maintenance work following safety recommendations from structural engineers. Structural engineers have recommended that Menai Bridge should close to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists to allow essential maintenance work to take place. This will take effect from 14:00hrs on Friday 21 October. South Wales Police is investigating the death of a 45-year-old woman from the Plasmarl area. Police were called to an address in Idris Terrace at 6am this morning (Saturday 22nd October). A 35-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder. He is currently being held at Swansea Central Police Station. It is believed those involved are known to each other.
