As we move into autumn, Cardiff kerbside garden waste collections will be collected monthly from October 4th until November 25th giving residents two further green waste collections from their home before the service is suspended during December, January and February. Figures show that the amount of garden waste collected from residents’ homes reduces by 80% over the winter season. With this significant reduction, waste collection crews from Cardiff Council will focus on the collection of food waste, black bag waste and recycling which significantly increases as we approach the Christmas season, as people spend more time at home. Hundreds of people have collectively saved thousands of pounds thanks to a Swansea Council-funded scheme to help cut household energy bills. Swansea Environment Centre – which is delivering the service – estimates that the assistance could have helped local residents collectively save more than £36,000 a year in fuel bills through energy efficiency improvements. It may have allowed householders to access more than £12,000 in financial support for fuel payments. Due for completion in 2023, the 71/72 Kingsway development will provide space for 600 jobs in sectors like tech, digital and the creative industries. The popular Community Bistro has relaunched at Ty’n y Wern Primary today with The Mayor of Caerphilly Council, Cllr Elizabeth Aldworth, at the heart of the reopening. Pre-pandemic, the Ty’n y Wern Bistro was run every Wednesday by pupils on a weekly rotation, pupils would undertake tasks such as baking, cleaning, handling money and chatting to customers. The Minister for Health, Eluned Morgan has today (September 29th) announced a lifetime guarantee of financial assistance for those affected by the Thalidomide drug in Wales. The current ten-year agreement for the Thalidomide Trust Health Grant comes to an end in March 2023. Thalidomide was commonly used to treat morning sickness from 1958 to 1961. It was withdrawn in December 1961 when it was found to have caused serious birth defects in babies born to women who took the drug during pregnancy.
