Fundraising volunteers have taken to the fairway to help raise vital funds in aid of the children’s charity, NSPCC Cymru/Wales. The popular annual charity golf day, held at Cardiff Golf Club on Friday, September 16, raised around £4,000. The Cardiff Cars team ran out winners at the event, which also included a shotgun start and was followed by a barbecue and prize draw. Cancer Aid Merthyr Tydfil is one of 48 community groups across Wales, celebrating a share of more than £680,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in UK. Cancer Aid Merthyr Tydfil, were awarded £10,000 to re-open a daily drop-in centre, offering practical and emotional support to those whose lives have been touched by cancer. The Penderi Regeneration Scheme will see a large and long-term investment into the area, four miles from Swansea city centre, with the plans shaped by the community itself. Wales’ Health Minister will open a new £1.7 million centre to train NHS staff at Aberystwyth University today (Friday 30 September). The University has created a suite of high-quality clinical practice rooms within its new Healthcare Education Centre, which is located opposite Bronglais Hospital in the town. The £1.7 million development was supported by a grant of £500,000 from the Welsh Government. Swansea Council is to give further help to local sports clubs that play on council-owned pitches. The council helped them in Covid’s immediate aftermath with assistance worth around £140,000 – much of it by waiving hire fees for grass pitches. Now, with most pandemic restrictions gone across Wales, the council aims to give more help by extending its free-use offer for the remainder of 2022, and offering a significantly discounted rate at the start of the new year.
