The RSPCA has revealed the number of guinea pigs coming into its care between January and August has risen by 90 per cent in the last two years*. The heartbreaking statistics are being released as part of Guinea Pig Awareness Week (26 – 30 September) to raise awareness of the suffering faced by hundreds of small furries. As we move into autumn, Cardiff kerbside garden waste collections will be collected monthly from October 4th until November 25th giving residents two further green waste collections from their home before the service is suspended during December, January and February. Figures show that the amount of garden waste collected from residents’ homes reduces by 80% over the winter season. Swansea Environment Centre – which is delivering the service – estimates that the assistance could have helped local residents collectively save more than £36,000 a year in fuel bills through energy efficiency improvements. It may have allowed householders to access more than £12,000 in financial support for fuel payments.
