RSPCA Cymru has welcomed moves by Pembrokeshire County Council who have banned the giving of pets as prizes on their land, after their Cabinet unanimously supported an RSPCA-backed motion. They are the latest council in Wales to take the stand against the outdated practice – following the #NoFunAtTheFair Pets as Prizes campaign, which was re-launched by the RSPCA back in June. It also comes as more than 7,500 supporters have now taken the campaign action which contacts their local authority in their individual regions to ban pets being allowed to be given out as prizes. Members of Gower Riding Club, including 73-year-old twins, are celebrating their success in the British Riding Clubs National Championships at Lincoln Show Ground on September 3. The club’s jumping team – Rachel Turley, Michelle Lloyd and twins Hilary Wooldridge and Sarah Williams, achieved 5th place out of 20 teams, show jumping at 70cm. There were over 1300 people competing at the ground over the weekend. Another club member, Kelsie Yelland, achieved fifth and sixth places in the dressage. Cardiff Council has announced a series of traffic measures in the city centre as work begins to create a southern entrance to the new Transport Interchange. The Interchange, which will feature the new bus station, is expected to be opened to the public by Transport for Wales (TfW) next year.
