Thousands of expertly crafted sunflowers are on display at Cardiff Castle for an important cause. Forever Flowers, an award-winning ‘in memory’ campaign organised by City Hospice, returned to the castle on Saturday (July 30). Each sunflower represents the life of a cherished loved one in a special way; allowing people to come together, remember much-loved family members, friends, colleagues and loved ones, and celebrate life. The display, designed by local artist Katherine Jones, is free to visit and runs until Sunday August 14. An appeal has gone out to families with children with additional needs from across North Wales to come forward as secret shoppers to road test events and attractions to rate them for inclusivity. It comes from the newly-formed action group PIWS – Welsh for purple – launched by Gwynedd High Sheriff Davina Carey-Evans which aims to encourage attractions to improve accessibility for families with hidden disabilities. End of season work is set to take place across the county’s wildflower meadows. From the beginning of August, the second cut of the season will take place at the Council’s Wildflower Meadows Project sites. This year’s season includes over a 100 managed wildflower meadows that have contributed to improved species richness across Denbighshire. These make up nearly 35 football pitches worth of native wildflower habitat. A charity ride championed by a Welsh sporting legend is making a real difference to people receiving pioneering cancer treatments in Swansea’s Singleton Hospital. In September, former rugby union and league star Jonathan Davies will once again lead Jiffy’s Cancer 50 Challenge. This is a 50-mile ride from Cardiff to Swansea, with the funds raised donated to cancer services at Velindre and Singleton hospitals.
