A new nursery school has officially opened in the Gurnos Estate, Merthyr Tydfil called ‘Safle’r Gurnos’ ’ which is currently a satellite provision of Santes Tudful Primary School but will grow into a third Welsh medium school for the County Borough. This is a big step forward for Merthyr Tydfil in expanding Welsh language education into the North of the County and developing the Welsh language environment. A building project that will transform education for vulnerable learners in Powys has reached an important milestone, the county council has announced. ISG Ltd has been awarded the contract by Powys County Council to build a new school for Brynllywarch Hall School.  Construction on the £9.1m project will start early next year. The school, located in Kerry near Newtown, provides education for pupils from 8 to 19-year-olds, with a wide range of complex emotional, behavioural and social difficulties. Finance and Local Government Minister Rebecca Evans visited a workshop in Merthyr today to see carbon neutral plastic trombones being assembled for Wales’s 7yr olds. The Merthyr Institute for the Blind (MTIB) workshop in Pentrebach is part of a consortium employing disabled and disadvantaged workers to assemble instruments for primary school pupils as part of the new national music service. An ambitious plan setting out 26 actions to eliminate new HIV infections, improve quality of life and end stigma by 2030 has been published today (Tuesday 14 June) by the Welsh Government. The draft 2023-26 plan, a Programme for Government commitment, sets out our future approach to prevention, testing, clinical care, living well with HIV and tackling HIV-related stigma. The Health Minister will also announce £3.9m to further develop online HIV testing following the increasing success of the scheme during the pandemic. The meeting was the sixth meeting of the Council, which focussed on the challenges facing the steel industry, with a particular focus on decarbonisation.
