The Welsh Government has announced a record-breaking £85m investment in flood and coastal erosion risk management for this year – the highest annual allocation ever delivered in Wales. Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, Huw Irranca-Davies, confirmed the funding during a visit to a scheme at Rover Way in Cardiff, where major construction work is underway to strengthen coastal defences. The women’s health hub is the first of its kind in the capital city and is tailored to women aged 40 to 65. Cardiff Council’s waste blitz team has cleared a significant amount of litter and fly tipped waste from Rover Way and Southern Way over the last two days. The clean up operation targeted two of the city’s key routes, where rubbish and illegally dumped waste had built up. Council teams worked to remove the debris and restore the areas to a cleaner and safer standard for motorists, businesses and nearby communities. Motorists are being urged to avoid Llantwit Major Road following a collision which has led to a full road closure. South Wales Police confirmed that officers are at the scene and the road is currently closed in both directions between Sigingstone, at the Cowbridge turn off, and the Vale Business Park in Nash. ISTL Engineering, a South Wales-based mechanical and electrical contractor, has secured a six-figure loan from the Investment Fund for Wales, through FW Capital, which will be used to support its work on significant new contracts in Cardiff Bay, creating 10 new jobs.
