A new group of electric vehicles are driving the Council’s goal to reduce carbon fleet emissions. Denbighshire County Council has taken delivery of five new electric Toyota Proace City vans. The new zero emission vans will continue the Council’s drive to replace the existing diesel fleet with electric vehicles following the declaration of a Climate Change and Ecological Emergency in July 2019 and commitment to seeking to become a Net Carbon Zero and Ecologically Positive Council by 2030. Around 165,000 older households in Wales will have insufficient income to cover their essential spending this year, with almost two fifths of these (around 70,000) living in poverty or just above the poverty line and/or in receipt of benefits, according to the latest analysis by Age Cymru. The Charity estimates that the poorest older households will need to drastically increase the percentage of their net income spent on essential goods and services from 58% in 2021-22 to 73% in 2022-23 due to higher costs of living. 52 Pembrokeshire sports clubs have been successful in gaining funding from the Sport Wales ‘Be Active Wales Fund’ in the past financial year. The clubs have received a total of £282,000, with grants ranging from £600 to £36,000. The sports supported include athletics, archery, boxing, bowls, canoeing, cricket, football, golf, gymnastics, netball, rowing, rugby, sailing, surf lifesaving, swimming, stand-up paddle boarding, table tennis and weightlifting. Continued delays to the introduction of EU import checks are a risk to biosecurity and put Welsh farmers at a disadvantage, Rural Affairs and North Wales Minister Lesley Griffiths has warned. In a letter to the UK Government the Rural Affairs Minister has outlined the Welsh Government’s concerns on the impact of the further delay to import checks, which were due to begin in July. The Minister said the Welsh Housing Quality Standard 2023 (WHQS 2023) would ‘build on the excellent achievements of its predecessor’ – the standard introduced in 2002.
