Progress continues on the multi-million-pound redevelopment of Maesteg Town Hall with the steel frame for the new glass extension recently erected and installed by contractors Knox and Wells. New floor levels in the extension have been formed and from the Talbot Street entrance, a new series of stairs provides access to what will be the lower ground library and café area. A £16m project to transform the Newport Transporter Bridge into a major tourist attraction got underway earlier this week. Councillor Jane Mudd, leader of the council, led the celebrations at a sod-cutting ceremony at the bridge site this morning to mark the start of work to build a new visitor centre. The project will also see extensive restoration work carried out on the bridge, which will ensure its preservation for future generations. The theme for this year’s Playday is ‘all to play for’ – building play opportunities for all children and aims to highlight that play is for everyone. The Minister for Education and Welsh Language will today provide a preview of the actions which are part of the Welsh Government’s plans to safeguard communities where Welsh is the main language and where there are large numbers of second homes. The interventions include encouraging homeowners to give local people a fair chance when selling their property. Thousands of expertly crafted sunflowers are on display at Cardiff Castle for an important cause. Forever Flowers, an award-winning ‘in memory’ campaign organised by City Hospice, returned to the castle on Saturday (July 30). Each sunflower represents the life of a cherished loved one in a special way; allowing people to come together, remember much-loved family members, friends, colleagues and loved ones, and celebrate life. An appeal has gone out to families with children with additional needs from across North Wales to come forward as secret shoppers to road test events and attractions to rate them for inclusivity. It comes from the newly-formed action group PIWS – Welsh for purple – launched by Gwynedd High Sheriff Davina Carey-Evans which aims to encourage attractions to improve accessibility for families with hidden disabilities.
