Well known Pembrokeshire dairy farmer, Dai Miles, who farms just outside of Haverfordwest has been selected as the winner of the 2021 Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) award for the person who has made an outstanding contribution to the Welsh Dairy industry. The award recognises an individual who has made a great contribution and has become an integral part of the dairy industry in Wales. Annest O’Neill of Ysgol Treferthyr, Criccieth and Rhian Morgan of Ysgol Llandinam, Newtown beat off competition from hundreds of entries from across Wales in the Farmers’ Union of Wales Christmas card design competition. Their designs were chosen as the winners of the Welsh version and the English version respectively. Now, both girls’ designs which had to include a scene from a farm will be printed and sold by the Union in aid of the DPJ Foundation which supports mental health in farming communities. Wonderwool Wales, the award-winning show that celebrates all that’s great about Welsh wool and natural fibres, is planning to return in style in 2022 following a pandemic enforced absence of two years. Buoyed by support from the Wales Cultural Recovery Fund, the organisers are pressing ahead with plans to hold the 16th show on April 23 and 24 next year at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, subject to any restrictions at the time. A new link made of up three archways is being constructed as part of Swansea’s emerging Copr Bay district. Aimed at generating better connections between the city centre and the waterfront, the link will lead from the Swansea Arena site to the Maritime Quarter. The archways replace a narrow tunnel that was in place there beforehand. A man who carried out substandard work on a shed in north Pembrokeshire and became unpleasant when challenged has been ordered to pay over £19,000. Benjamin Michael Davies, trading as BMD Agricultural Sheds, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Monday 22nd November, for a case brought by Pembrokeshire Trading Standards. Davies, aged 31, was charged with and admitted five offences under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. Bridgend County Borough residents are being warned not to put highly flammable items with the kerbside recycling or bin bag collections. The warning comes after a small fire broke out in a recycling truck while the crew were on collection duties. The crew were alerted to the blaze by a loud popping sound and were able to remove the burning items from the truck to control the flames until South Wales Fire and Rescue arrived on scene.
