This International Volunteer Day, Sunday December 5, Flat Holm is celebrating their first year-long placement with a new volunteeron the remote island, five miles off the Cardiff coast. Young volunteers from around the world, aged between 18 -30, were invited to join the programme. Those who applied showed an interest in the Island’s wildlife, environmental education, nature conservation and history. Every household in Wales will be offered a free tree to plant as part of the Welsh Government’s commitment to tackle climate change, Deputy Minister Lee Waters has promised. Record levels of more than £260m will be invested in training healthcare professionals in Wales in an effort to help the NHS respond to the pandemic and challenges in the future. The investment for 2022/23, which is a 15% increase from 2021/22, will see the highest ever number of training opportunities in Wales. The Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales, Christianne Glossop has confirmed the presence of avian influenza H5N1  on a mixed poultry premises near Crickhowell, Brecon and Radnorshire, Powys. The premises holds chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, pheasants, swans and rheas. A 3km Protection Zone, a 10km Surveillance Zone and a 10km Restricted Zone have been declared around the infected premises, to limit the risk of disease spread. Learners in Wales will have improved opportunities to play and learn with musical instruments, as part of £6.82m in funding announced by Education and Welsh Language Minister Jeremy Miles to provide additional music resources to schools. The announcement supports the Welsh Government’s Programme for Government commitment to set up a national music service. An additional £3m has also been announced by the Minister to extend the successful Creative Learning through the Arts (CLTA) programme for a further three years.
