The dedicated work of a Tenby team promoting water safety has been hailed following one of the busiest summers on record. The Tenby Water Safety Initiative is made up of representatives of Pembrokeshire County Council, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the RNLI. Throughout the summer the group has been providing water safety advice alongside banners and posters supported by social media messaging, highlighting potential dangers of the waters around Pembrokeshire. Private landlords interested in leasing their properties in Bridgend County Borough are being invited to join a scheme which would see them used as temporary accommodation. Cartrefi Hafod, which is working with Bridgend County Borough Council on the private rent leasing scheme, offers one to three year lease agreements. Landlords are offered a guaranteed rental income for the duration of the contract, paid monthly in arrears. The scheme also includes a full management service and 24/7 repairs service. Minister for Education and Welsh Language Jeremy Miles has today announced additional funding to help more young people access support for emotional mental health and wellbeing services through youth work approaches. An extra £2.5m will be provided to local authorities through the Youth Support Grant this financial year, to work with the voluntary sector to reach a wider range of young people, including those who are harder to reach and those with protected characteristics, who may not currently be engaged with formal education, training or work. The first of its kind in North Wales, a free history app, called Imagine Trail, will shed light on some of the Bay of Colwyn and Mochdre’s old tales and bring them to life through augmented reality (AR) technology. Two pet gerbils who were lucky to survive after being dumped in a rusty bucket in a car park in Tredegar are now recovering from their ordeal after being rescued by the RSPCA. The frightened duo were discovered by a member of the public near a rubbish bin in Queen Victoria Street at about 1pm on 30 August. Luckily she was able to contain them before alerting the animal welfare charity. Staff at Newport Animal Centre, where they are now being looked after, have named them Ben and Jerry.
