A rugby club has unveiled plans for a new women’s team. Clwb Rygbi Bala, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, has 200 players on its books. According to chairman Tony Parry, the community-based club has come a long way since it was established in 1980 and has become a focal point for social and social life in the area. Pupils and school staff in Denbighshire are being reminded to take Covid-19 tests before returning to school in September. With the start of the new term imminent, all secondary age pupils and staff in Denbighshire schools not experiencing Covid-19 symptoms are being encouraged to take Lateral Flow Device (LFD) tests before returning to school. Farmers and the wider public in Pembrokeshire are being urged to remain vigilant as credit card scams have been circulating in the county. The warning comes as the Farmers’ Union of Wales county office has received numerous phone calls from members raising the alarm. The launch of the 1Bws ticket, which after purchase is valid for travel on buses across North Wales, took place in Rhyl on Tuesday, August 24. The launch, held at the Events Arena, was attended by bus operators from across North Wales as well as invited guests from Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey and Wrexham councils, Senedd members and officers from Transport for Wales. A unique project which helps young people across Gwynedd and Anglesey venture into the world of work and business has paid tribute to the latest cohort to take part in the scheme. A Menter Môn project, Llwyddo’n Lleol 2050 aims to challenge the perception that it’s necessary to leave rural areas like north west Wales to succeed in work or business. Some 35 participants have already received support through the scheme – several having gone on to set up successful businesses or to find work locally. Fifteen-year-old Libi Phillips from Spittal has been selected to represent Wales at wheelchair basketball for the UK School Games in Loughborough University from 2nd – 5th September. An ambassador of disability sport, Libi has also represented Wales in both wheelchair rugby and wheelchair racing and began playing basketball at the age of seven in a Sport Pembrokeshire community sport activity day.
