RUNNERS and spectators took to the streets of Swansea on Sunday for the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k – with a colourful 1980s theme. Around 4,000 runners took centre stage for what is one of the top events of its kind in the UK. The event was voted Best 10k in Wales in the 2019 Running Awards. A modern ‘changing place’ with facilities for people with disabilities, refurbished public toilets and access improvements are on their way to the Aberavon Seafront’s popular Aqua Splash attraction. It follows a decision to accept a £120,000 funding offer from the Welsh Government’s Brilliant Basics Scheme to carry out the Aberavon Changing Place Project by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Regeneration and Sustainable Development Cabinet Board. Bridgend County Borough Council is developing an innovative demonstration project focused on the creation of low carbon communities and local energy markets. The Low Carbon Communities Initiative aims to see how locally generated renewable electricity produced as a result of solar power can potentially be shared with other homes nearby. More than £66 million is being made available by the Welsh Government to continue delivering positive environmental outcomes for Wales, a key part of maximising the protective power of nature through farming. Rural Affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths has announced the Glastir Advanced, Commons and Organic contracts are being extended until December 2023. Welsh Government has announced the appointment of Ashok Ahir as interim president and trustee of the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. Mr Ahir, 52, is deputy director of Cabinet Office communications for the UK Government. He joined the UK Government in Wales in July 2018 as the director of communications, having previously ran a successful bilingual communications agency based in Cardiff.
