Flood alleviation work will start at Mill Street in Pontypridd this week, to install green features such as tree pits and rain gardens to tackle surface water in a sustainable way – while also improving the area’s aesthetics and biodiversity. A campaigning police boss is calling for jails to trial giving free cannabis to prisoners to help them overcome their drug problems and reduce prison violence. North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones, a former police inspector, says  the radical idea could also prevent overdose deaths in prisons. Apprentice and musician Joel Mallison has struck the right note with a career change, excelling as an apprentice with telecommunications company Openreach. After initially studying music and graduating with a distinction in Radio Production, Joel, 30, from Abergavenny, ended up working in his father’s painting and decorating business for six years before seeking a new career.
