Bridgend Council has revealed plans to transform the town centre of the area and is now inviting the public to take part in a short survey. The town centre masterplan outlines a vision for a liveable and vibrant place. The vision brings together enterprise, employment, education, in-town living, shopping, culture, tourism and well-being within a historic setting. Work to build three more play areas at the Parc Derwen development in Coity is set to start this week. Concerns were raised last year by Bridgend County Borough Council about delays in Persimmon Homes delivering the play parks at the 1,500-home development. The Covid-19 outbreak meant planned works in spring and summer last year had to be delayed. Plans to transform Merthyr Tydfil’s Cyfarthfa Castle into an international quality museum set in an expanded 100-hectare public park, could draw more than half a million visitors each year and “energise the Valleys Regional Park concept”, according to a report published today. The Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council has unveiled an ambitious draft budget for 2021/22 that will allow the authority to continue its journey of ‘improvement and transformation’ following the significant disruption of the past 12 months. Aberystwyth University has announced that it will offer accommodation fee refunds to students who have not returned to their university-owned accommodation in the town this year while teaching is solely online because of the pandemic. The announcement follows Welsh Government advice to students last Friday afternoon asking students to remain at home. On 6 January 2021, at Aberystwyth Justice Centre the Magistrates passed sentence on Mr. Toby Holland of Maesgwyn, Blaenporth after he was found guilty in his absence of 10 charges relating to Animal Welfare and Animal By-Products offences.
