The Welsh Government has announced it will fund up to 37 additional places for students at Cardiff University School of Medicine. There will be an additional 25 undergraduate places this academic year, with up to a further 12 places next year. There has been an increase in the number of successful applications to study medicine and healthcare courses this year. Cardiff University needs to increase the capacity of its medical programmes to accommodate the additional numbers of students. The use of smart and connected technology has the potential to boost rural communities, according to a new report published this week. Focusing on the agriculture and tourism sectors in rural Wales, rapidly growing technology such as “internet of things” (IOT) – internet-connected devices – could help these areas thrive in future, according to the report. Farmers in Glamorgan still don’t know what the future holds for their local livestock mart, with fears growing that livestock trading in Cowbridge will never resume. A mum-of-three has told how her violent partner tried to kill her by deliberately crashing his car at speed into a stone wall when she was pregnant. Terrified Annie, 30, not her real name, miraculously survived the impact but suffered whiplash, stomach pains and severe headaches while her raging partner tried to smash the car with a rock. On other occasions he punched her stomach after finding out she was pregnant and tried to strangle her.
