Plans have been unveiled for a £590 million tidal lagoon capable of providing low carbon electricity to power 82,000 homes in North Wales. Building the 6.7 kilometre long lagoon, stretching from the breakwater at Mostyn to Point of Ayr in Flintshire, would create 300 jobs during the construction phase and up to 30 high-skilled permanent posts. South Wales Police has concluded its investigation into the explosion at a property in Seven Sisters on June 24. The cause of the explosion has not been deemed suspicious and the most likely explanation is a combination of ageing LPG gas equipment and environmental conditions. Allotment holders in Newport had an unexpected visitor – after an escaped six-foot, red-tailed boa constrictor turned up at the site. The snake was found by a member of the public on the allotments near Malpas Road in the city on June 14. Fortunately, the snake was soon easily caught and transported to a nearby Police station, before coming into the care of the RSPCA. A woman has spoken movingly about how her life was ripped apart by a fatal road crash which left her with life-changing injuries. According to former care worker Caroline Franks, 60, from Glyn Ceiriog, she was struggling to come to terms with what happened until she received support from Brake, a road safety charity that receives funding from North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner. UK organisations anticipate that it will take 18 months to fully recover from the disruption of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent social distancing measures, with small businesses leading the way back to “normal”.
