A new trial has been launched in Aberystwyth as part of the Caru Aber campaign, to help keep the town centre clean on waste collection days. [aoa id=”1″] Heavy duty sacks will be placed on Aberystwyth streets on Monday afternoons before the black bag collection on Tuesdays in the following streets; Portland Street, Portland Road, Queen Street, Corporation Street, Eastgate Street, New Street and Cambrian Place. Traveline Cymru has introduced a number of improvements to its cycle planner to give cyclists more information about their journeys. A campaign to tackle violence against women has moved up a gear with special window stickers being put in all 250 police vehicles in North Wales. The move has been championed by PC Mike Taggart, 37, whose mother was stabbed to death by his brutal stepfather when he was just 15 year of age. The traumatic experience inspired PC Taggart to join North Wales Police and he is now the force’s Strategic Domestic Abuse Officer. A badger has been rescued by the RSPCA after getting himself trapped in the precarious surroundings of a military live firing range in Caldicot. RSPCA Cymru was alerted after the badger fell some five-foot down a concrete pit at the Rogiet Moor Range, on Tuesday (7 August). The pits are usually used for military personnel to fire from. The alarm was sounded by the warden for the military firing range, who has been thanked by the RSPCA. An unseasonable area of low-pressure brought heavy rain and strong winds battled large swathes of England and Wales on Friday and Saturday.
