A woman from Swansea has been jailed after throwing boiling water towards another woman’s face. 21-year-old Jessica Thorne, from Penlan, committed the offence on Boxing Day last year. The victim was left with a large red burn on the side of their face which could take up to two years to heal and may leave scarring. She has been sentenced to ten months and two weeks in prison. The Vale of Glamorgan Council has introduced two electric vehicles to its kerb-side recycling fleet. The new additions – manufactured by Romaquip – are the latest step in the Council’s vehicle replacement programme. Bridgend County Borough Council has announced that Jake Morgan will join the authority in July as its new Chief Executive Officer. He was appointed by members following a vigorous recruitment and assessment process which culminated with an extraordinary meeting of Council held on Wednesday 2 April. A convenience store in Cardiff has been ordered to pay over £2,000 for excessive noise coming from a refrigerator condenser unit at their business in Ely. The owner of Fisher Convenience Store on Michaelston Road was sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court last Friday (March 28) for failing to act, after a Noise Abatement Notice was served on the property on May 31st, 2023. Funding is now available once again to boost businesses in Swansea. Applications are now open for pre-start, growth, innovation and carbon reduction grants thanks to Swansea Council through the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Supporting entrepreneurs and the creation of new businesses, pre-start grants of up to £10,000 are available to cover equipment, training, accreditation, marketing or stock. Business growth grants of up to £50,000 are also available to support the introduction of new products or services into businesses which would create or safeguard jobs. Last month, Newport hosted some exciting free events over several weekends in March starting with celebrations for St David’s Day and ending with the first-ever Music Trail. Caerphilly County Borough Council welcomes £1,571,009 funding from the Welsh Government to address flood risk management and deliver associated schemes.
