Media Cymru has welcomed its third and final cohort of businesses and SMEs as successful recipients of Seed Fund for early-stage research, development and innovation (R,D&I). Almost £140,000 of seed funding has been invested in 14 companies and freelancers to develop innovative research and development (R&D) projects in the media sector. The funding was awarded to projects covering interactive storytelling through virtual production (VP) and augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), placemaking and tourism, bilingual broadcasting and gaming. The Biofilm Alliance, an initiative funded by Innovate UK, will bring together experts from academia, industry, metrology, regulatory bodies, and standardisation organisations, to bridge the gap between research and effective regulation. The first of six fully refurbished cycle travel trains has launched on the Heart of Wales line. As part of a gradual introduction, by the summer, customers will be able to bring up to 12 bicycles and e-bikes onboard the service that runs between Swansea and Shrewsbury. Until that point only two bikes can be brought onboard, in line with all other TfW trains. An innovative public science project has gone live to help track environmental changes to Denbighshire’s coastline. Denbighshire Countryside Services has joined with the Wales Coastal Monitoring Centre and the Wales Coast Path to launch the CoastSnap project from Rhyl down to Gronant Dunes. CoastSnap is a citizen science project where the public can submit images of the coast in locations where there is a CoastSnap sign via a QR code.
