An “inspirational” couple have given festive hampers to more than 800 staff as their pioneering care organisation marked its 40th anniversary in style. Founders Mario Kreft MBE and his wife, Gill, toured Pendine Park’s care homes, thanking staff and residents during joint Christmas and anniversary celebrations. Wales is investing in sickness not health, the Future Generations Commissioner is warning, as he joins calls for a dramatic shift in the way we spend our budgets. A pioneering Cardiff scheme helping people on lower incomes buy organic fruit and veg is being highlighted in a new national report, which finds that government support for organic food could deliver major health and economic benefits across the UK. The Bridging the Gap report looked at nine pilots across the UK and found that connecting households on low incomes with locally grown organic food can generate £8.78 in social value for every £1 of public investment, matched with £1.10 from shoppers. Patients at the Marie Curie Cardiff and the Vale Hospice on Bridgeman Road, Penarth, met cast from the Crossroads Pantomimes production of Sleeping Beauty – including Prince Gethin, also known as TV presenter Gethin Jones and broadcaster Owain Wyn Evans who plays the Spirit of Pantomime.
