Bellway graduate trainee becomes assistant site manager at Newport development

Josh Williams has been appointed as an assistant site manager at Bellway after successfully completing the company’s graduate scheme.

Josh took up his full-time post at the housebuilder’s Wales division in September and is now working on site at Bellway’s Heron’s Mead development in Llanwern, near Newport before going to their new site in Penllergaer, Parc Mawr.

“This appointment is the culmination of nearly two years of hard work and learning on the job,” said Josh, who gained a degree in construction management and quantity surveying at Swansea University in 2019. “The housebuilding industry is my chosen career and I feel fortunate to have secured a place on the graduate scheme at a prestigious company like Bellway.”

Josh said he took time out after school and took jobs in the construction industry to see if it was what he wanted to study at university.

“I worked for my father’s building company, as well as an electrical company and another building company,” he said. “After that I decided it was something I had a passion for and wanted to join a major developer and progress after getting a degree.

“I’d like to be a site manager fairly quickly followed by a construction manager/contracts manager role to a director position. I understand things take time but I will continue to work hard, ensure my education is at the correct level for each role, gain more experience and push myself to see where it can take me.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work in many different site teams across the division learning different management styles as well as helping me grow as an individual. I have two very well-respected construction managers to help nurture my progression and I would not be in the position I am without the fantastic support and guidance from my construction director. It is good to know that Bellway will back me on my career path.”

Andy Backhouse, Managing Director of Bellway Wales, said: “Josh is a product of the excellent graduate scheme we have in place at Bellway.

“I am delighted to say that Josh’s diligence, ambition and sheer hard work has seen him secure a position as assistant site manager at Heron’s Mead in Llanwern. We are looking forward to seeing him grasp this opportunity with both hands and go on to make his mark within the company.”
