Local housebuilder Bellway Wales has proved itself to be a committed supporter of Llanrumney United FC.

The developer, which is building new homes at its Longwood Grange development in Lisvane, on the edge of Cardiff, has donated £500 to the club, based just three miles away at University Fields in Llanrumney.

The money is to be used to buy 20 Bellway-branded match day warm-up shirts for the club’s first team, which plays in the South Wales Premier League Championship Division.

The club has 42 teams ranging from under-5s to senior teams, including a girls division and newly-introduced women’s squad. It is a platinum Football Association of Wales Accredited Club and works in partnership with Sport Wales, which has given it ‘Super Club’ status.

This is the second successive season that Bellway Wales has sponsored Llanrumney United FC as in 2023, the housebuilder donated £250 towards the club’s running costs.

Club secretary Sarah Mace said: “This sponsorship is invaluable to us. A club such as ours, with a huge following and massive intake of youth players from the ages of four and up, relies heavily on sponsorship to function.

“We are a community-led club which plays at varying levels of football and strives to allow access to all interested where we can. In doing so we need to reach out to businesses to request support throughout each season and we need to keep the costs low to keep our players engaged and registered with the club.

“Additionally, we are pushing to move up and up in the tiers and levels that we can play within the current structure so any support that we receive also contributes to enabling this to happen.  We are all very proud of our players, club volunteers and sponsors.”

Dan Shone, Head of Sales for Bellway Wales, said: “We are very proud of our ongoing relationship with Llanrumney United FC.  It is much more than a football club because, for nearly three decades now, it has been providing a real focus for the community, not only allowing children and adults to play football but also bringing families and neighbours together to socialise and make lasting friendships.

“We hear that, for the third season in a row, the club has maintained its FAW Platinum Accreditation status, which is the highest level that a grassroots club can achieve and makes Llanrumney United FC one of only a few clubs in Wales to achieve this level. We hope that all the sides at the club have a good season on the pitch and hope that the first team is inspired by having smart new match day tops.”
